ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the influence of educational technology on secondary school students’ academic achievement in English Studies using selected secondary schools in Ekpoma, Edo State as case study. Specifically, the study examined the various ways educational technology influence students’ academic achievement in English studies, how English study teachers can leverage on educational technology to enhance their performance, and the factors that impedes the adoption of educational technology in secondary schools. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 100 responses were validated from the survey which comprised 4 selected secondary school students in Ekpoma, Edo state using purposive sampling method, were 80 students and 20 English studies teachers were selected for sampling. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analysed using simple percentage statistic, the two formulated hypotheses were tested using chi - square analysis. From the responses obtained and analysed, it was accepted that the Educational technology positively influence students’ academic achievement in English studies. This is as the Chi-square test showed (X2) value (160.40) is greater than table value (7.815). Furthermore, Educational technology enhances the performance of English language teachers. This is as the Chi-Square test showed (X2) value (40.04) is greater than table value (7.815). The study recommended that orientation programmes in forms of training/seminar/workshops should be organized for the teachers and the school leaders on a weekly or monthly basis in order to help them to have proper insight and knowledge on how integration of educational technology will help students outside the classroom. More so, students should be trained on the use of educational technology devices.
